Swiss Re has announced the appointment of Ali Shahkarami (pictured above) as global head of P&C solutions. He will report to Russell Higginbotham, CEO of Reinsurance Solutions.

In his new role, Shahkarami will lead a team of insurance and data experts based in Munich. Their mission will be to provide property, specialty, and casualty solutions to clients of Swiss Re’s newly launched Reinsurance Solutions division.

Shahkarami joins Swiss Re from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), where he served as chief data officer. During his tenure at AGCS, he held various leadership positions in Munich and California, focusing on catastrophe risk modelling, research, and innovative technology solutions for underwriting processes.

Prior to his time at AGCS, Ali worked as a lead catastrophe risk modeller at RMS, a software and technology company specialising in catastrophe risks. He holds a Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and has a background in civil engineering with applications in aerospace.

“We’re delighted to welcome Ali to our global Reinsurance Solutions team,” Higginbotham said. “With his extensive insurance knowledge, complemented by his outstanding data and technology background, Ali knows exactly our clients’ business and digital needs. Together with his team, he will deliver cutting-edge solutions across the entire P&C value chain, leveraging Swiss Re’s advanced data insights and industry-leading risk knowledge.”
