Gallagher Re has announced two new appointments for its China branch, with Jia Lou (pictured) taking on the role of CEO for Mainland China and Hong Kong and Alex Xia as head of the broker in Beijing.

Lou comes to the role with more than 15 years of experience in the industry. In his new position, he will be responsible for the broker’s strategic planning and execution within the Mainland China and Hong Kong markets while reporting to Gallagher Re head of Asia Pacific Mark Morley.

Prior to this posting, Lou was managing director and head of South China and agriculture at Guy Carpenter while based in Hong Kong. According to his LinkedIn, he graduated with a BSC in mathematics, operational research, statistics, and economics from the University of Warwick, as well as holding certifications from Cambridge Judge Business School and MIT Experimental Learning.

Xia will lead the local team in Beijing to develop, diversify, and further strengthen the client offering and service proposition in the northern China region, where he will report to Lou. Xia began his career at PICC P&C where he spent 19 years in various direct insurance and reinsurance positions. Prior to his new role at Gallagher Re, he was deputy head of client management in North China for Munich Re.

Morley said that Lou’s and Xia’s credentials, market knowledge, and experience speak for themselves.

“We have an ambitious strategy for sustainable growth in the China Market, both on the Mainland and in Hong Kong, and are firmly focused on enhancing our client proposition of advocacy, advisory and risk transfer solutions. That strategy demands continued investment in people, just as much as it does service offering, and we are therefore pleased to welcome Jia and Alex to the team to drive our businesses in the region for the benefit of clients and colleagues,” Morley said.
