Fuelling Around podcast: Marcus Wareing on his TV career, love of cars and culinary skills

Marcus Wareing is the first guest on series six of award-winning podcast Fuelling Around with hosts Jason Plato and Dave Vitty.

Wareing is one of the most famous chefs in the world and owns a plethora of restaurants including the renowned Michelin-starred Marcus, in Knightsbridge. He is also best known for his role as a judge on BBC’s Masterchef: The Professionals and talks to the boys about his television career, fascination and love for cars as well as  his culinary skills.

The chef recalls a hilarious story of working with his-then business partner Gordon Ramsay convincing him to buy a Porsche when they worked together.

“When I got my first head chef’s job, with my business partner back then, Gordon,” he explained.

“I went out to buy my first car. It was a Volkswagen Corrado V8. I owned that car for a good four or five years, and then believe it or not I went straight to a Carrera 4S Porsche. What a car that was.

“Back then it was all about working a thousand miles-per-hour and me and Gordon were together and he said to me about the Porsche ‘I think it’s about time you get yourself a proper f***ing car.’”

Marcus Wareing on his favourite comfort foods

Elsewhere on the podcast, Wareing dispels the myth that chefs, in particular famous chefs, eat gourmet meals at home and reveals his favourite comfort foods.

“In our house, me and my family, we’re all cooks, all my kids cook and my wife is a brilliant cook,” the 52-year-old stated.

“We eat the same food as everyone else. We have lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, curries, we had burgers last night. We love a roast dinner. I love a fry up, a bacon sandwich and I love scrambled eggs on toast. There’s nothing in my house that no one else eats.

“The difference between me and everyone else is it just tastes better in my house than everyone else’s. Everyone always says ‘if we ever go into lockdown again, get locked down in a chef’s house because you’ll eat well’.”
