Former Winnipeg mayor Brian Bowman (pictured) has begun a new role with Canada Life as vice president of sustainability and social impact.
In an official announcement shared via Twitter, Bowman expressed his enthusiasm for this “next professional chapter” as he outlined the key responsibilities of his new position, which include overseeing Canada Life’s global sustainability and social impact strategy.
Bowman also stated that he will play a pivotal role in the company’s reconciliation efforts within Canada, as well as provide advice regarding “similar challenges” in the United States and Europe.

Bowman left the mayor’s office nearly nine months ago after he opted not to pursue another term in the civic election held last October. He became Winnipeg’s 43rd mayor in 2014 and was re-elected for a second term in 2018.
Speaking with CTV News, Bowman said he had been in discussions with Canada Life’s leadership about the position for some time and that he was drawn to work with the company due to its commitment to sustainability.
“It just seemed like a really strong fit for me in terms of the skill sets that I bring to the table,” he said, adding that the role presents an opportunity to continue the work he had started as mayor.
Bowman also commented on the social impact aspect of his new role and how it resonated with him.
“We’re on a journey of reconciliation,” the former mayor said. “And the efforts of Canada Life have been, I think, leading in the corporate community. They’ve been doing some incredibly inspiring work.”
Bowman worked as a privacy lawyer prior to his political career. He is also Winnipeg’s first Métis mayor.
