Kevin P. Dougherty, former president of Sun Life of Canada, has joined the advisory board of Gotodoctor, a digital health platform focused on delivering healthcare services across both public and private sectors.
Dougherty, who spent over 40 years in the Canadian insurance and employee benefits industry, brings extensive experience in healthcare innovation and strategic business development to Gotodoctor.
At Sun Life, he helped establish the company’s group businesses as industry leaders and pioneered the Total Benefits platform, which integrated pension savings and benefits into a single digital interface. Dougherty also played a key role in the launch of Lumino Health, a search engine for allied health providers in Canada.
Commenting on his new role, Dougherty said, “Gotodoctor has created a unique public/private platform through its proprietary technology and pharmacy/clinic network. It has the potential to revolutionize how healthcare services are delivered. I look forward to helping the Gotodoctor team realize their passion and commitment to seamless access to healthcare for Canadians.”
According to a media release, Dougherty’s addition to Gotodoctor’s advisory board underscores the company’s commitment to strategic growth and market expansion.
His expertise will be instrumental in guiding Gotodoctor’s executive team as they aim to accelerate market adoption, pursue transformative acquisitions, and drive business growth, the company said.
Tommy Cheung, CEO and president of Gotodoctor, expressed his excitement about Dougherty’s appointment: “I am truly thrilled to welcome Kevin at a time when Gotodoctor is gaining recognition and accelerating on its growth trajectory. Kevin’s strategic vision, industry experience, and technology insights will play a pivotal role in shaping our company’s future in Canada and beyond.”
Dougherty holds an MBA (International) from the Rotman School of Management and an ICD Designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. He also serves as a corporate director with RGA Canada.
Gotodoctor is a B2B integrated healthcare platform in Canada. An estimated one million Canadians use its unique care access technology and digital health services.
The company’s real care delivery network combines virtual and in-person care through over 250 pharmacy and clinic service sites across Canada. Gotodoctor has established partnerships with major Canadian enterprises, third-party administrators, and insurance companies.
