Your first look at the 2024 BMW R1300 GS Adventure released at Motorrad Days event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen!

Some bikes are a surprise when they appear – but not this one. A bigger, fancier ‘Adventure’ variant of BMW’s various GS dual sport bikes have become a fixture of the Munich firm’s range, generally launched 6-12 months after the initial base GS hits the shops.

So with the very latest generation 1300 GS released last autumn, a bigger, bolder, beefier BMW R1300 GS Adventure was only a matter of time. BMW announced the other week that it would be showing the new GSA off at its annual ‘Motorrad Days’ shindig in Bavaria, and they pulled the covers off at 5pm Friday.

So here it is – and isn’t it a monster? BMW’s taken the basic engine and chassis package from the R1300 GS, and added a heap of touring and off-road features. That includes a 30 litre fuel tank – 11 litres more than the standard GS’s 19 litre unit – which incorporates wider wind and weather protection for the rider, and multiple luggage attachment functions including handy new radiator-cowl bags.

There’s a new design of aluminium hard luggage cases, with integrated magnetic electronic connectors for USB, charging, and optional add-on lights, with other functions coming in future.

The cases can also incorporate 10 litre add-on aluminium volume extenders to make them even more spacious when needed. BMW’s added a new smartphone charging storage space, there are new LED auxiliary headlights integrated into the bodywork, and the optional radar system now adds rear collision warnings to the active cruise control and front collision warning functions.

Keyless ignition, heated grips, new hand protectors with integral indicators, tyre pressure monitoring and dynamic cruise control with brake function are all now fitted as standard too.

BMW’s also added its latest DSA Dynamic Suspension Adjustment semi-active suspension setup as stock, which includes a new function to adjust the spring rate of the front and rear monoshocks as well as the usual damping adjustment.

And the new GS Adventure also offers the option of BMW’s new ASA Automated Shift Assistant system, which adds a computer-controlled clutch and gearshift for fully automatic riding, with manual gearshift override via paddles on the left bar.

Under all the new kit is the same water-cooled 145bhp 1300cc ShiftCam Boxer engine, in a hybrid frame, with a sheet steel main frame, aluminium lattice rear subframe, Paralever rear shaft drive and Telelever front suspension.

The kerb weight is a chunky 269kg, 32kg more than the standard GS – though a bit of that will be down to the extra fuel capacity. The Adventure traditionally comes with wire-spoked tubeless rims, though you can specify forged aluminium rims as an option.
