The New Zealand Underwriting Agencies Council’s (NZUAC) first-ever Expo, which is taking place in October in Auckland, is free to attend for insurance brokers and is now open for attendee registration.

With the theme “Challenging Markets and Innovative Solutions,” NZUAC Expo 2023 came about following what the representative body described as “overwhelming” feedback from its members and support partners.

For NZUAC executive director Nigel Edmiston, the event is an opportunity for the non-profit organisation to show the value it brings to the market and how it is relevant to underwriting agencies.

Speaker line-up

Keynote speakers during the Expo are Lloyd’s AMEA (Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa) regional director and Lloyd’s Japan president Iain Ferguson and Aon’s chief executive for reinsurance solutions in Australia and New Zealand, John Carroll.

Topics to be discussed by Ferguson include pricing pressures and Lloyd’s syndicates’ risk appetite for New Zealand, and Carroll will talk about the reinsurance market and why it is in its current state.

The panel, meanwhile, will feature DUAL NZ’s Paula Sheppard-Jones, Crombie Lockwood’s Myles Noble, Jenny Bax from the Underwriting Agencies Council Australia, and Chris Lynch of 360 Underwriting Solutions.

CPD-approved

According to the NZUAC, the Expo’s learning outcomes and speakers have been approved for CPD (continuing professional development) points.

Key outcomes include learning about the evolving risk landscape, gaining knowledge around claims handling technology, exploring collaboration opportunities, understanding the current capacity constraints in the market, and recognising the role of underwriting agencies in driving customer-focussed product innovation and compliance.

The event is approved for three ANZIIF (Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance) CPD points or 2.5 IBANZ (Insurance Brokers Association of New Zealand) points.

Edmiston told Insurance Business: “We really want to encourage brokers to come to this inaugural event and engage with our members and their suppliers, and just see what they can do – mix and mingle and have an enjoyable time and listen to some fantastic international keynote speakers.”

If this year’s Expo turns out to be a success, similar events will be organised by the NZUAC in other major centres in New Zealand, Edmiston said.

The first-ever NZUAC Expo is happening at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Auckland on October 25. Those who wish to attend can register here.
