Embroker Spotlight: Meet Elise Sandow

Elise Sandow is a key member of the Customer Success team at Embroker, where she advises accountants and lawyers with customized coverage. We sat down with Elise to ask her about her work and discovered a few unique things along the way. From her values as a broker to her previous lifeguard role, Elise breathes life into the insurtech world.

What experience do you have as a broker?

I’ve worked in the insurance industry for eight years. Previously, I worked on the carrier side and at a regional broker. I’ve been on the LPL team at Embroker for the last five years.

How do you partner with clients to get them the best coverage?

I really try to get an understanding of the client’s goals, whether it is better coverage, better price, or making insurance easier to manage. Additionally, I try to help insureds understand what they are purchasing and why they need it. Buying insurance can be overwhelming & confusing, even for attorneys. Spending even a few minutes discussing coverage can go a long way in terms of educating the client.

What do you like most about working for Embroker?

I like that we are always improving, whether it’s the website, the insurance products, or our internal procedures. The constant changes definitely keep work interesting.

Talk To A Broker

What’s the most important quality in an insurer?

I would say their reputation for claims-handling. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how easy the application or how good the price is if the carrier isn’t going to pay claims or is going to be a nightmare to work with.

What’s the question that clients should ask you but don’t?

I would encourage anyone with any doubt about when to report a claim to ask more questions, particularly if they are unfamiliar with claims-made policies.

What’s your favorite piece of work that you’ve done for a client?

Since we specialize in law firms, this comes up quite a bit, but any time we make someone’s life significantly easier due to our digital application. We’ve had clients who previously completed a 30+ page application get a quote on our site in just a few minutes.

What’s been the biggest change in the industry you’ve seen in your career?

Obviously, there’s been a huge focus on Insurtech in recent years. Beyond innovation & competition in the insurance industry, I think insureds, particularly first time buyers, are starting to expect a significantly better experience, comparable to tech platforms from other industries.
