Dozens Of High School Students Lift Car To Rescue Mother And Baby Trapped Underneath

A driver in the parking lot of Utah’s Layton Christian Academy was reportedly blinded by the sun and ran over a mother and her two young children on Tuesday. One of the children, a three-year-old girl, was able to get out from under the car on her own, but the mother and her two-year-old son remained trapped underneath. To get them to safety, between 20 and 30 high school students got together to lift the car up, allowing an airman from the nearby Hill Air Force Base to pull them to safety, KSL 5 TV reports.

A Eulogy For The Jeep Renegade

“I hear all these commotions, people telling me, ‘Come help, come help!’ so I drop my stuff and ran over,” sophomore Theo Roach told KSL.

“I ran inside, I told everybody, ‘Call the police,’ eighth grader Utulei Simaumea. “I looked under the car, and the baby was lying there. And the mom was like, ‘Help! Help! Help!’”

“We got to just lift enough to get them out, and the kids listened,” Chris Crowder, the school’s associate pastor and CEO told the news outlet. “They picked up the car on the one side, 20 to 30 kids, just an inch or two, enough for the air force gentleman (who) was able to pull them out. The kids were heroes, as well as the gentleman that was there and pulled them out.”

Thankfully, all three survived getting run over. The two-year-old was reportedly unconscious and had a purple face but was flown to a nearby children’s hospital and is expected to survive. The mother and the three-year-old were taken to the hospital by ambulance, and while the little girl didn’t sustain serious injuries, the mother reportedly required a number of surgeries for her injuries. Still, she is expected to survive.

Currently, there is no word on the driver or whether they will face any charges for running over the family. Since this is America, though, there’s no guarantee that sending three people to the hospital with your car will even result in a fine, much less any actual criminal charges.
