Following the most recent round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season at Virginia International Raceway, the Rennsport One team packed the truck full of four Porsche race cars, and all the associated gear, and headed back to their South Florida race shop. On Sunday at 3 a.m. thieves broke into the compound, jumped in behind the wheel of the semi truck, and drove the whole shooting match off to parts unknown. A little over an hour later, the truck was disconnected from its race car load and abandoned on a residential property in the Homestead, Florida area. That’s where the trail goes dark, as the thieves apparently found and disabled the trailer’s GPS, making off with the race cars and parts inside.

The trailer should be relatively easy to spot, as it is emblazoned with the RS1 team logo and graphics. The cars inside are Porsche GT4 RS Clubsport race cars with proper Porsche Motorsport VINs, and also should be fairly easy to track down if the cars ever come up for sale. It’s possible the people who stole these cars six days ago have already stripped them for parts and ditched the VIN-coded chassis, but we can hope that isn’t the case.

Early on Sunday morning two people drove into the RS1 compound and then drove away. About twenty minutes later the truck and trailer were driven off the lot. Police and the shop owner aren’t saying much about how exactly the truck was stolen, whether the keys were left inside or if the thieves found a way to bypass the ignition. Perhaps they had some insider information from a member of the team.

Whatever the case, the team is now scrambling to figure out how to get ready for the upcoming Indianapolis Motor Speedway round of the season on September 19. It doesn’t seem likely they’ll be able to source four cars and get them prepped for a two-hour race. The team is currently second in the GS class points standings with drivers Trent Hindman and Stevan McAleer, just 50 points in arrears of Aston Martin driver Matt Plumb.

If you see the trailer or any of the cars, contact the Broward County Crime Stoppers.
