The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) has launched an online cybersecurity learning program in response to the significant threat of cybercrime to Canadian businesses.

A comprehensive training course designed to enhance the cybersecurity knowledge and skills of property & casualty insurance employees, the Cybersecurity Education Program is offered at no cost to CSIO members.

The need for such education is underscored by recent data from the Canadian Centre for Cybersecurity, which reported that cybercriminals stole more than $500 million in 2022. Given that many incidents go unreported, the actual figure is likely much higher.

In response to the growing threat, CSIO’s program aims to foster a culture of security awareness and provide essential educational tools to help organizations defend against cyber risks.

One of the program’s key features is its flexibility, CSIO highlighted. Participants can complete the modules at their own pace as they gain access to tools that help assess their current cybersecurity posture and stay vigilant against both current and emerging threats.

Sarah Van Allen, owner of Van Allen Insurance, commented: “The severity of cyberattacks on businesses, big and small, highlights the importance of knowing how to identify phishing scams and other threats.

“CSIO’s Cybersecurity Education Program is user-friendly, engaging, and, most importantly, helps our brokerage continue to be vigilant when faced with potential cyberattacks.”

The program is accredited in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, with accreditation pending in Alberta, and is equivalent to 2.5 Continuing Education credits. For those interested in learning more or registering, additional information on the program is available at csio.com.
