Chubb hires new head of accident and health

Chubb has strengthened its consumer division by appointing Amy McKellar (pictured above), who has been with the company since 2006, as the new head of accident and health (A&H) for Australia and New Zealand (A&NZ).

McKellar has a wealth of experience in A&H. She joined Chubb in 2006 and was responsible for Australia and North America. She then became the regional underwriting manager for A&H for the Midwest from 2013 to 2017 and then led the company’s A&H portfolios for New York and the Northeast in 2019. Upon returning to Australia in 2021, she took on the role of underwriting lead for A&H. Most recently, she was the consumer manager for A&NZ.

As the new head of A&H for the two countries, McKellar will be responsible for the portfolio’s strategic direction, management, growth, and profitability. She will report to Peter Kelaher, Chubb’s country president for A&NZ.

Commenting on McKellar’s new role, Kelaher said: “Chubb’s consumer division has seen tremendous growth over the last three years in response to our disciplined underwriting approach and award-winning claims service. Amy’s deep expertise in A&H will enable Chubb to continue meeting the expanding needs and service expectations of this rapidly evolving market.”

Meanwhile, Michelle O’Dowd (pictured immediately above), current head of personal risk services (PRS) for A&NZ, will continue to lead Chubb’s accelerated growth ambitions for Chubb Home and Chubb Masterpiece for the two countries. She reports to Kelaher.

Kelaher commented: “Chubb is known globally for our expertise in home contents and valuables insurance, offering outstanding cover and award-winning claims service. Under Michelle’s leadership over the last three years, Chubb has cemented our position as an insurer of choice for individuals and families in Australia and New Zealand whose higher value homes and assets require enhanced cover.”
