Chubb appoints new regional executive officer
Key hire will begin in his new function starting 2025

Chubb has announced the appointment of Leander Metzger (pictured above) as regional executive officer for the Eastern Region, covering Continental Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa (MENA).
Metzger joins from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI), where he served as country manager for Switzerland and Head of Property and Risk Engineering for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
His new role, effective from January 1, 2025 pending regulatory approval, will include country responsibility for Germany and oversight of growth and development in Germany and Austria.
Metzger succeeds Andreas Wania, who passed away earlier this year.
With over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, Metzger previously held senior positions at FM Insurance in Germany, joining the company in 2006.
He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in insurance law from Hamburg University and an MBA in Economics and Finance from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
David Furby, senior vice president of Chubb Group and regional president for Chubb Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, highlighted Metzger’s expertise as the latter prepares for his new role starting next year.
“Leander has an outstanding reputation and extensive network within the corporate insurance industry across Europe and beyond. I am delighted that he is joining us and am very much looking forward to working with him as we continue to develop our business across the Eastern Region,” Furby said.
Based in Frankfurt, Metzger will report to Peter Kelaher, division president for Chubb Continental Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Kelaher himself was appointed earlier this month after serving as country president of Australia and New Zealand.
Before this, Kelaher joined Chubb Australia in 2007 as a senior underwriter. He also held several senior positions in the region. Kelaher began his career as a financial lines underwriter for a P&C insurance company in Australia.
