CHES Special Risk has introduced a new insurance offering to aid healthcare establishments in navigating risks associated with infectious diseases.

This infectious disease liability (IDL) insurance policy addresses concerns related to zoonotic diseases capable of crossing from animals to humans and the heightened probability of pandemics due to global travel, according to an emailed news release from the MGA.

Hoang Quan Nguyen, senior underwriter, professional lines at CHES Special Risk, underscored the importance of preparedness in the face of potential outbreaks, especially in the wake of COVID-19, Ebola virus, and SARS-CoV-1 in the last two decades.

“Fortune favours the well-prepared,” he said in the news release, echoing the words of scientist Louis Pasteur.

Key features of the new IDL offering include:

Third-party bodily injury claim coverage – Protection against claims stemming from bodily injuries resulting from an infectious disease outbreak where negligence is alleged
Outbreak definition – A single outbreak is defined as two or more people infected at the same location with the same pathogen within 14 days
Claim threshold – Coverage is triggered with only one person making a claim
Hospital-acquired infections – Coverage extends to infections acquired within hospital premises or locally acquired infections that develop into outbreaks on the insured premises
Comprehensive coverage – Protection encompasses COVID-19 and its variants, along with future unknown pandemic risks

Last month, CHES Special Risk announced the expansion of its commercial general liability (CGL) portfolio, adding a new range of products designed for contractors and businesses operating in the construction and contractor industry.

The expanded offer features CGL policy limits of up to $2 million for contractors with revenues below $3 million.
