Global specialty P&C re/insurer Canopius Group has announced the appointment of Chris Getty (pictured above) as cyber and technology underwriter.

Getty brings over nine years of cyber insurance experience to Canopius. He joins from Talbot Underwriting, where he most recently served as head of cyber and technology, leading the London and New York underwriting teams. Getty began his career with Barlow Lyde & Gilbert LLP and is a qualified solicitor.

The appointment is part of a series of new hires in the Canopius cyber and technology division. Earlier this year, Sam Minshaw was appointed as cyber claims manager, Alex Fyfe joined as cyber claims adjuster at the end of March, and Catherine Sims was appointed as cyber claims adjuster in New York.

Getty, who joins the company immediately, will report directly to Mike Shen, head of cyber & technology, London Market.

Shen commented that Getty is a highly regarded underwriter and leader who had quickly made a name for himself in the cyber market.

“Our cyber book in London has grown rapidly through a combination of expert underwriting, product innovation and diversification,” Shen said. “Maintaining this momentum requires bringing in market leading talent to complement our existing team. Chris is the ideal candidate to help us realize our ambitious growth plans while ensuring the exceptional standard and approach which our broking partners expect from Canopius. I am very pleased to welcome him to the team.”

Getty also expressed his excitement about joining Canopius, highlighting the company’s innovative and technical approach in the cyber sector.

“In an already innovative and highly technical class, Canopius are increasingly setting a new standard and their growth ambitions made this impossible to pass up. I am looking forward to getting started,” Getty said.
