BMS Group buys Armstrong Nisbet broking business

Property owners win flood/storm dispute

BMS Group has acquired the business book of Armstrong Nisbet Insurance Brokers (ANIB), a specialist firm serving the information communications and technology, energy and infrastructure sectors.

ANIB founder and industry veteran Robin Nisbet and daughter Belinda Nisbet, who joined the Sydney-based firm in 2008, are both moving across to BMS Group.

“Robin has a long and distinguished career in the industry having insured some of Australia’s most iconic projects such as the Sydney Opera House, Robe River Iron Ore mine and the Eastern Suburbs Railway,” BMS CEO Andrew Godden said. “He is also an original director of the National Insurance Brokers Association.”

Ms Nisbet has more than 25 years international experience in commercial management, including risk management consulting, and brings experience from work in corporate advisory, mergers and acquisitions, investor relations and due diligence.

“It is an honour to join forces with Armstrong Nisbet Insurance Brokers, who have an impressive history and reputation in the Australian market,” Mr Godden says.

“In particular, they bring a wealth of knowledge and market-leading expertise in ESG advisory and renewable energy, which will strengthen and deepen our client offering in this space. Their partnership approach is completely aligned with the level of service and care BMS aims to provide to our clients.”

Armstrong Nisbet Group also includes Armstrong Nisbet Consulting and Armstrong Nisbet Capital. Only the broking business will be transferred to BMS under the deal, with the ANIB business to be co-branded initially. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Mr Nisbet says in making the move it was important to find a partner that shared its client-focussed values and a commitment to service excellence.

“BMS embodies these qualities, and our clients will only benefit from their ‘people first’ philosophy,” he said. “Our clients will also have access to BMS’s global specialist insurance, reinsurance and capital markets advisory services and support, allowing us to provide a deeper level of service.”
