Blue Ocean Reinsurance Group has announced the appointment of Chad Smith as its new chief accounting officer.
Smith, who is currently based in Canada, brings more than a decade of experience to Blue Ocean and will head the accounting function, offering his expertise to both the team and clients.
A native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Smith completed his bachelor of business administration in accounting at the University of Prince Edward Island in 2013, followed by his certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) in 2014. He began his professional career at Grant Thornton, a top-five accounting firm.
After gaining valuable experience in Canada, Smith relocated to the Cayman Islands in 2016, where he broadened his expertise across various sectors, including insurance, private equity, and professional services. He returned to Canada in 2020, continuing his career in the accounting field.
Graham Mackay, president and chief financial officer of Blue Ocean Reinsurance Group, expressed enthusiasm about Smith’s addition to the team.
“We are delighted to welcome Chad to the Blue Ocean Reinsurance Group team,” he said. “Chad brings diverse experience across a range of industries and a solid accounting background to support our next phase of growth, predicated on underlying technology that supports our finance platform. We are proud to add him to our strong bench of experts leading our entry to the market.”
Smith’s appointment is part of Blue Ocean’s strategic efforts to strengthen its leadership team as it embarks on new market initiatives.
Blue Ocean officially launched as a managing general agent (MGA) platform in February earlier this year, with CEO Adrian Lynch highlighting its mission of offering comprehensive support services to both existing and new reinsurance companies entering the Cayman market, as well as to complex captive insurers.
