Blanket and Cactus have announced that Hayden Murphy (pictured above) will take over as general manager for both businesses.

Murphy’s career includes significant positions at Youi Insurance in both Australia and New Zealand, where he focused on customer retention and service. He also gained expertise in commercial client servicing and direct insurance at Allianz.

Additionally, Murphy’s tenure at O’Briens, a part of a global group, saw him lead customer operations, manage commercial and retail portfolios, and oversee claims processes.

In his role, Murphy plans to implement a dynamic approach to insurance broking, drawing on his extensive background and skills in people management and business development. His strategic vision is set to drive both Blanket and Cactus forward, particularly in a market adapting to a new licensing regime.

Blanket aims to enhance its offerings to advisers, while Cactus focuses on becoming the leading insurance broker for small to medium New Zealand businesses with its tailored advice.

“I’m thrilled to join the outstanding teams at Cactus and Blanket. Nick Rolfe has laid a solid foundation, and I’m eager to build upon his legacy, fostering collaboration and transforming the way insurance broking is done in New Zealand,” Murphy said.

Nick Rolfe, the previous managing director of Blanket and Cactus, recently announced his departure from the insurance businesses after eight years. His tenure saw Blanket establish a strong presence in the fire and general cover sector, particularly among advisers.
