Autumn is a beautiful time of the year. Leaves changing colour and falling, earlier sunset and frostier mornings all add to the visual appeal. So of course, it’s a prime time to get out and make the most of your drone.

Filey Bay, Yorkshire
If you’d like to make a short break part of the adventure, the Blue Dolphin touring site uniquely allows you to fly your drone on site and enjoy a little cloud surfing – and it’s perfectly primed for some of the best views of the area. It’s worth taking your time to ensure you have a clear line of site – and you really do not need to fly too high to find beautiful views.
Filey Beach has a 4.5/5 rating on TripAdvisor, with an expansive sandy beach with a lush countryside cliff top backdrop. It could be a great place to drone to capture the change in seasons, particularly with fewer people about as the colder weather approaches.

Colliford Lake, Cornwall
Colliford Lake is the largest reservoir in Cornwall on Bodmin Moor, with an incredibly picturesque view of the Cornish countryside. There are plenty of beautiful trees surrounding the lake which will all change colour as the season progress.
With lakeside walks around a reservoir the size of 682 football pitches, and home of the largest labyrinth in the world, there is plenty to see, and plenty of space to fly. Although it can be quite tempting to fly higher than allowed, it’s important to follow the code and keep under maximum heights.

A spooky abandoned Victorian farm, Wakefield
If you’re looking for an adventure, and exploring the unknown, another team favourite for droning is a derelict Victorian park farm in Wakefield. It has a creepy, abandoned ambience, which works really well, particularly as the darker nights draw in and surrounding foliage changes.
Find it by parking in Southern Washlands Car Park, WF1 4HZ.

Do I need to insure my hobby drone?
Although there is currently no UK law regarding insuring your drone, legislations is in the pipeline. Drones are expensive to replace in the event of theft or flyaway, but what could prove to be even more costly is if a rogue drone caused damage to property, or injury to another person. Even the best drone pilot can have their drone swept away in sudden high winds!
Compensation for personal injury claims can creep into the thousands, in addition to paying for legal costs, so it could be worth considering this to safeguard your personal finances, in addition to insurance for replacing it if it is damaged in the process. You can also add a friend, or family members to your policy.
Many believe that their drones are insured on their home or car insurance policies. If your drone is stolen from your home, then yes, you are likely to be covered, but the minute you head out the door, it isn’t. Most car insurance policies actually exclude drone cover, while some do cover theft from the vehicle.
It’s important to note that neither home nor car insurance covers you for when you are flying your drone – and gadget insurance typically excludes drones from cover.
