Berkely Insurance Australia supports fight against childhood brain cancer

Berkley Insurance Australia (BIA), recognised as one of Insurance Business’s 5-Star Professional Indemnity Insurers for 2021, has joined the fight against childhood brain cancer by donating to the Children’s Hospital Foundation that supports the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre.

The Children’s Brain Cancer Centre is Australia’s first research initiative that solely focuses on paediatric brain cancer, treatment, and survivorship. It brings together world-class researchers, doctors, and facilities to boost brain cancer research capacity and outcomes inside and outside Queensland.

As part of its fight against the disease, BIA pledged to donate $1 from every new Open Market Policy bound in March to the centre.

In its announcement, BIA emphasised that brain cancer kills more children in Australia than other diseases, with one child losing their life every nine days.

“Despite many advances in other childhood cancers, survival rates of brain cancer have made little progress over the last 30 years. The Children’s Brain Cancer Centre aims to change that,” BIA said. “This March, we ask our brokers to show their support and stand with us to support these strong kids and fight this cruel disease.”

Aside from teaming up with organisations to protect Australians, BIA has been entering partnerships with other companies to expand people’s options in the modern world, including the cyber space.

Early this year, the general insurer entered the blockchain industry by teaming up with Frontier Global Underwriting (Frontier) to provide professional liability, general liability, and directors’ & officers’ liability insurance for blockchain companies – putting them among the first insurance providers and underwriting agencies to offer a tailored insurance solution for blockchain.
