ASR Names Amit Khilosia as chief distribution officer

He will focus on market access and partnerships in Africa and the Middle East

Re/insurance group Africa Specialty Risks (ASR) has announced the appointment of Amit Khilosia (pictured above) as chief distribution officer.

Khilosia, who has over 35 years of experience at Lloyd’s, will lead ASR’s distribution efforts, aiming to expand the company’s presence in both regions.

Khilosia’s background includes significant expertise in market development and stakeholder engagement in the African re/insurance sector. He began his career at Lloyd’s in 1989, working across various roles in finance, regulatory matters, and market development.

His achievements include negotiating expanded market access strategies for Lloyd’s across Africa and leading the launch of Lloyd’s South Africa Ltd., where he served as managing director.

He also held the position of Lloyd’s regional manager for Africa and, most recently, was the regional Lloyd’s Head for Africa and chairman of Lloyd’s South Africa.

In his new role, Khilosia will be based at ASR’s UK office and will collaborate with the senior leadership team to shape the company’s distribution strategy. His focus will include expanding market access and developing strategic partnerships to support ASR’s long-term growth plans across Africa and the Middle East.

ASR CEO Mikir Shah said that Khilosia’s appointment underscores the company’s ability to attract experienced professionals as it grows in these regions.

“His deep knowledge of re/insurance and experience in Africa align perfectly with our vision. We are confident that Amit will open new growth opportunities and build on our client and partner relationships across these regions,” Shah said.

“Having worked over three decades at Lloyd’s, I am excited to have the opportunity to utilise my experience to further enhance ASR’s already impressive network across Africa and the Middle East, driving growth in these regions.
