Arbol, a technology-led underwriter of parametric risk transfer, climate and weather insurance or reinsurance business, has employed Deanne Nixon, the former Chief Executive Officer of Florida-headquartered property insurer Weston.

Nixon has joined Arbol as a Senior Adviser for Reinsurance, the company announced on Linkedin today.

“We are thrilled to announce that Deanne Nixon has joined the Arbol team as Senior Adviser for Reinsurance. With over 30 years of leadership experience in the industry, Deanne is exceptionally equipped to drive innovation and expansion in our reinsurance capabilities,” the company said.

Adding, “At Arbol, we are committed to advancing the parametric reinsurance space. Deanne will play a key role in strengthening our offerings, particularly our parametric named storm reinsurance product designed to fill crucial protection gaps.”

Given the current state of the reinsurance market, protection buyers have become increasingly open to exploring parametric solutions as add-ons, or replacements, for certain layers of coverage where capacity has been tighter, or pricing less appealing.

Nixon responded by saying, “I’m excited to join the Arbol team! I believe there is a strong future in the parametric reinsurance space and Arbol has been at the forefront of this field.

“I’m excited to work with the team to help grow and develop the portfolio as well as establish new products focusing on gaps in the reinsurance market.”

Nixon had most recently been working in a consultancy role for reinsurance firm Cincinnati Re.

Previously she had spent more than 8 years at Weston Insurance, first as the Florida specialists Chief Underwriting Officer for more than 6 years, then as its President and CEO.

Earlier in her career, Nixon had spent almost 8 years with Sirius International in Bermuda, including time as the President of its Sirius Capital Markets entity.

Before that, Nixon began her career at CNA Re and also worked at Folksamerica.

Nixon’s considerable experience in international reinsurance, US coastal property insurance and in capital markets, will all bring considerable value to Arbol as the parametric specialist continues to expand its business.

Recall that just last week, Arbol had announced the establishment Lilypad Insurance as a homeowners specialist carrier and that this new subsidiary had acquired Centauri Insurance from Applied Underwriters.
