Arbella Insurance Foundation Surpasses $43 Million in Total Lifetime Donations

Arbella Insurance Group Employees and Charitable Foundation Donated $3 Million to Support Social Causes

The Arbella Insurance Foundation (“Foundation”) is proud to announce the donation of $3 million in 2023 to support 516 different charitable organizations throughout New England, totaling more than $43.2 million in donations since the Foundation’s inception in 2005. In 2023, the Foundation funds and Arbella employee volunteer efforts supported long-term charitable partners who are making a difference in the community through social justice, housing opportunities, and immigration reform.

“Giving back to our communities has always been at the core of Arbella’s mission, and it is a quality I admire in our employees,” said John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman and president of the Arbella Insurance Foundation. “With every year comes new challenges at the socioeconomic level, and each year, we are able to support the charities in our area where care is needed most. Our employees continue to amaze me with their selflessness, generosity, and ideas for charitable giving each year. I am enormously proud to oversee these initiatives.”

The Foundation finds great value in working with and supporting Arbella employees and independent agents who volunteer their time and provide in-depth insight into the needs of the local community. Throughout 2023, the Foundation, Arbella’s employees and independent agents came together to donate, volunteer, and make an impact. Together, Arbella employees, independent agents, and the Arbella Foundation donated a total of $477,000 to local charities.

“Arbella employees and agents are extremely generous,”said Robin Jones, executive director of the Arbella Insurance Foundation. “It has been inspiring to experience their generosity, and we are thrilled to augment their efforts with funds from the Foundation.”

Additionally, the Foundation received support from 470 employee volunteers in 2023, and Arbella employee volunteers participated in 40 opportunities for 22 organizations in the area. With a total of over 1,300 volunteer hours completed in 2023, Arbella is proud to have supported the following causes.

Highlights among the Foundation’s 2023 charitable giving initiatives include:

Food Insecurity

2023 marked the 16th year of the Foundation’s “Let’s Drive out Hunger” program. This program has encouraged Arbella insurance agents to support their local food pantries with a $2 for $1 match of their donations, which has resulted in over $1.9 million to hundreds of food programs and pantries throughout New England. Grants have also been provided to many organizations that are proactive in finding creative solutions to food insecurity, such as Interfaith Social Services, My Brother’s Keeper, the Salem Food Pantry, and more.

Health and Wellness

2023 marked the 15th consecutive year of Arbella’s Pink Day, where Arbella employees joined forces with the Arbella Insurance Foundation to raise funds to provide cancer screenings and education for medically underserved populations through the work of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Arbella employees raised more than $24,000 at the annual Pink Day event in 2023 and those funds were matched by the Arbella Insurance Foundation for a total donation of $50,000.

The Arbella Foundation and Arbella Insurance Group employees and agents also contributed $100,000 to Dana-Farber as part of the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon, totaling over $1.5 million to Dana-Farber since Arbella’s partnership began.

Supportive Housing

The Foundation is committed to supportive housing efforts for the homeless population of Massachusetts. In 2023, the Foundation partnered closely with Father Bill’s & MainSpring, which included a $300,000 donation to the opening of the Yawkey House Resource Center in Quincy and supported local housing authorities with providing meals, mental health support and counsel to this community.

Immigration

Massachusetts is home to many of this country’s immigrants and over 17% of the state’s residents were born outside this country. Arbella is proud to stand behind these locals who make up one-fifth of the Massachusetts labor force. The Foundation continues to support immigration reform in Massachusetts, this year partnering and fostering efforts with the Rian Immigrant Center and the Brazilian Workers Center.

Local Initiatives

When Western Massachusetts was impacted by massive flooding this year, the Foundation provided $50,000 in flood relief to support local farmers and help them get back on their feet following the devastation of their crops.

The Foundation and the Boston Celtics continued to partner together on a special All-Star Program that encourages perfect school attendance and creates a positive school culture through an art and writing contest. Since the program’s inception, over 4,500 students have committed to writing and art projects and are focused on their perfect attendance record.

The Foundation also partnered closely with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) School Bus Program to bring students from 50 schools around Massachusetts to BSO concerts and field trips. This year, the program was able to connect 3,070 students and teachers with the symphony.
