The Arbella Insurance Foundation (“Foundation”) is proud to announce the donation of $3.6 million this year to support 623 different charitable organizations throughout New England. Since its inception in 2005, the Foundation’s donations have totaled more than $40.2 million. This year, the Foundation continued to fund and support long-term charitable partners who provide social services, education, cultural experiences, social and racial justice support, health and wellness programs, as well as assistance to immigrants and refugees.

“Natural disasters including Hurricane Ian and economic volatility highlight the importance of corporate support to those who are struggling with hunger, homelessness and injustice,” said John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman and president of the Arbella Insurance Foundation. “At our core, Arbella is a community-centered organization. Allowing employees, the opportunity to give back to their communities has always been fundamental at Arbella, yet every year I am astounded by their proactivity, compassion and dedication in support of the local charities that are important to them. I am grateful to see that energy and that ethos thrive within our organization as it truly makes a lasting impact in our communities and beyond.”

The Foundation finds great value in working with and supporting Arbella Insurance Group (“Arbella”) employees and independent agents who volunteer their time and provide in-depth insight into the needs of the local community. Together, with the Foundation, Arbella employees and agents gave $760,009 to many causes including food programs, social services, health and wellness, culture and education.

“I am continuously humbled and inspired by the passion, creativity, and caring that the Arbella employees and independent agents display in giving to local charities that are important to them,” said Beverly Tangvik, president of the Arbella Insurance Foundation. “They band together around local causes, creating a strong presence for charity events.”

Food Insecurity

Food insecurity continues to impact a large percentage of our local population and only got worse in 2022 with rising food prices. The Foundation continued its commitment in this area through its long-term programs and new ones. Arbella employees were also involved in helping people secure food through their volunteer efforts from serving meals at different charities.

2022 marks the 15th year for the Let’s Drive out Hunger program. This program has encouraged Arbella Insurance agents to support their local food pantries with a $2 for $1 match of their donations, which has resulted in $1,848,238 to hundreds of food programs and pantries throughout New England over the past 15 years. Grants have also been provided to many organizations that are proactive in finding creative solutions to food insecurity, which includes Lovin Spoonfuls, Rachel’s Table, Interfaith Social Services, Northampton Survival Center and Community Servings

Partnership with Boston Celtics and All-Star Program

The Boston Celtics and the Foundation brought a special All-Star Program to Quincy Middle school students in 2022. This program encourages perfect attendance and creates a positive school culture through an art and writing contest. More than 700 students were introduced to this program during the winter/spring 2022 school year. More than half the students achieved perfect attendance during the designated 8-week period and 82 participated in the art and writing contest.

National and International Initiatives

The Foundation provided funds for critical and devastating causes beyond our local community. In 2022, the Foundation provided $25,000 each to the American Red Cross and UNICEF in support of their humanitarian efforts, including endeavors to help the people of Ukraine impacted by the war. A matching gift program offered to Arbella Insurance Group employees resulted in an additional amount of $53,180 sent to these organizations. Furthermore, an additional $25,000 from the Foundation along with $2,425 employee’s matched donations are being sent to American Red Cross and UNICEF to support Ukrainians who are now suffering from lack of fuel for heat and food.
