Altimapa Capital, a London based private debt investment and financing specialist, is looking to capitalise on growing institutional investor interest in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) space, with the launch of a dedicated ILS unit led by former Ledger executive José Pedro Jácome.

Altimapa Capital intends to act as an investment related advisor to specific ILS arrangements and transactions and also has a plan to launch a suite of ILS funds that offer exposure to a range of insurance risks.

Pedro Jácome has been hired from his most recent role at ILS focused insurtech Ledger Investing where he was Director of Investor Relations and Fundraising.

He is joining Altimapa Capital to lead the new dedicated insurance-linked securities (ILS) unit, bringing more than a decade of experience in ILS gained from his time at both GAM Investments and Ledger Capital Markets.

He had previously worked at Millennium Banque Privée, Millennium BCP and Banco Finantia and is a specialist in fixed income, emerging markets and wealth management.

Pedro Tavares, Founder and CEO of Altimapa, commented that, “ILS has become a theme in conversations with investors and the firm plans to address this demand by acting as an advisor on specific deals with clients and is also looking to set up a suite of funds to provide exposure to different lines of insurance.”

Tosin Adesiyan, Partner at Altimapa, added, “The appetite for non-correlated financial assets is increasing the attractiveness of both cat and non-cat ILS investments. Altimapa Capital, with its well-established structured capital investor base, is poised to service this growing asset class.”

Pedro Jácome also said, “I am very excited to join a firm with the expertise in bespoke investment solutions of Altimapa, which is perfectly positioned to help institutional capital become an increasingly important source of capital for the insurance industry.”

Since its founding in 2015, Altimapa Capital has helped to raise more than £350 million for clients, across its Corporates, Energy, Financials and Real-Estate divisions.

The firm helps businesses and projects to raise debt capital from non-traditional funding markets, engaging with more than 650 institutional investors and lenders to deliver services from deal support, to fully outsourced capital raising.

Altimapa said it aims to build on the trend of innovative solutions that help to increase capacity in the insurance, reinsurance and MGA marketplaces.

We understand that the plan at Altimapa Capital is to begin with establishing managed accounts for institutional clients seeking access to insurance-linked returns and then to launch dedicated ILS funds focused on the non-cat space.
