Allianz Partners has issued a travel advisory for Kiwis who may have been caught amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas militants.

On Oct. 7, the Israel Defence Forces reported that Hamas militants had fired approximately 2,200 rockets towards southern and central Israel, targeting cities such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. This escalation has led to ongoing military operations, prompting the Israeli government to officially declare war against Hamas.

SafeTravel, an Aotearoa advisory service, has urged New Zealanders currently residing in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories to exercise heightened security awareness. They emphasise monitoring media updates to stay informed about the evolving situation and advise individuals to promptly inform their families back home about their safety.

In light of these developments, Allianz Partners noted that insurance policies include specific general exclusions related to war. These policies do not extend coverage for losses directly or indirectly resulting from or associated with war.

The company also reiterated that the term “war” encompasses invasions, acts perpetrated by foreign enemies, warlike operations (whether officially declared or not), civil war, mutiny, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, or military or usurped power.

Allianz Partners also urged brokers to refer their clients to the general exclusions section within their policy.

“If you are in Israel and find yourself in a vulnerable location, please follow the advice of the local authorities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT),” the company said.

Addressing those who were travelling in Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories on October 7, Allianz Partners added: “If you require medical advice or emergency medical assistance, please contact our 24-hour emergency medical assistance team. Speak to the local operator and ask to be put through reverse charge to +61 7 3305 7499.”

In its travel advisory, Allianz Partners highlighted that it is the company’s priority to assist customers where possible and within its ability to do so.
