AIA NZ appoints new vitality coach

AIA NZ has announced the appointment of Katie Hunter as the new AIA Vitality coach. AIA Vitality is “a science-backed programme that is the foundation of our approach to health and wellbeing at AIA NZ,” according to chief partnership distribution officer Sharron Botica.

“Our dream is to champion New Zealand to be one of the healthiest and best protected nations in the world – and AIA Vitality helps Kiwis understand the current state of their health, remove barriers to better health, and incentivises them to stay motivated to improve their health through exercise, nutrition, and health screenings,” Botica said. “For us, this is about transforming the role that we play in our customers’ lives and in society, from simply being a payer of claims, to a partner in their ongoing health and wellbeing.”

AIA NZ also made a key hire in December, appointing Claire Dalton as regional manager for business development for the Northern Region.

“A game-changer for the insurance industry”

“AIA Vitality is a game-changer for the insurance industry, and I’m excited to get stuck in and help lead the charge with our adviser network and support them and their clients to make positive lifestyle changes one step at a time,” Hunter said. As someone who spent many years in her trade, she also shared her passions for “empowering people to live a life with energy, wellness and confidence.”

Hunter has roots in the health and wellness sector, holding a bachelor’s degree in physical education, and a post-graduate diploma in sport and exercise medicine. She has also worked both as a personal trainer and a gym manager.

Launched in 2019, AIA Vitality has already recorded huge milestones to improve health and wellness. Members have taken enough steps to run nearly 500,000 marathons – a total of 23.7 billion steps. The program was also responsible for 33,000 AIA Vitality Health Checks in which 19% of members managed to reduce their BMI as a result. Fifty per cent also improved their blood pressure levels, and 16% reduced their cholesterol.

AIA Vitality has also completed more than 10,000 eye exams, 4,000 dental assessments, and 800 nutrition assessments. The program is looking to ramp up even further, as AIA NZ also announced that it is still recruiting for one more AIA Vitality coach to join Hunter in driving awareness and understanding the value of the program.
