AIA New Zealand has announced the appointment of Ben Lovelock (pictured) as its new chief risk officer. Lovelock succeeds the insurer’s long-serving chief risk officer, Doune Connett, after the latter’s retirement.

Lovelock has been in the industry for more than 19 years, with experience spanning many actuarial and finance practice areas. Before this new role, he served as head of ratings for AIA Group.

According to his LinkedIn, Lovelock also worked at PwC Hong Kong as actuarial senior manager, as well as at AMP in various actuarial roles for over 10 years. He is a qualified fellow member of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) after training as an actuary at AMP.

AIA NZ CEO Nick Stanhope welcomed Lovelock to the team in a news release, in addition to praising Connett for her work with the insurer over many years.

“It’s great to have someone of Ben’s calibre and experience able to receive the baton from Doune and take on this critical role for AIA NZ,” Stanhope said. “Doune has an incredible legacy in the financial services industry. She has been a valuable member of the AIA NZ whānau having fulfilled the statutory role of Appointed Actuary for Sovereign from 2011 until 2018 and has held executive positions within the business since 2017. Her leadership, mentorship, and guidance will be missed by us all and we wish her all the best for her retirement.”
