Charlotte Connolly’s London Marathon

Charlotte Connolly’s London Marathon

At Club Insure and the Romero Group we will be supporting our very own Charlotte Connolly who will be running this year’s London Marathon. She will be raising money on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK, our partner charity.

Charlotte Connolly is a Claims Handler at Club Insure. The Romero Group prides itself on it’s excellent inhouse claims team and Charlotte has been an intricate cog, working alongside clients, notifying insurers and negotiating settlements.

We asked Charlotte a few questions about the challenge, why she signed up and how she’s preparing for the event.

What made you want to sign up to do the London marathon?

“Well I’ve always wanted to do it. I’ve never been to London during it, but I’ve always watched it on TV every year since I was little. So it’s an amazing opportunity for me, I don’t think I’ll be up there with the front runners but I’ll definitely give it a good go.”

What is your level of running experience?

“I unfortunately have not been training before putting my name forward for the London marathon, however I have run a marathon before. I ran the Yorkshire marathon in 2019 but it was very different. No cheering, country roads, blind corners, very empty countryside. I was also disappointed with my time; I wanted to run under 4 ½ hours but managed around 5 hours. This time around I’m determined to go faster and I’m sure with the crowd support and occasion I’ll be able to achieve it.

I ran 12 miles last week and I plan to do a long run every weekend of around 21 miles. I like the route along the canal from Appley Bridge to Leeds. Also the marathon will be around my birthday. I’ve got 7 weeks yet so I’ll give it my all.”

What food do you like to eat in preparation for a run?

“I won’t eat immediately before as I like to run on an empty stomach. The morning before training I eat a slice of toast and a banana. And the night before I’ll have a lot of pasta, the best being spaghetti and meatballs.

During the run I like to have a few jellybabies in the back pocket and I’ll pop them maybe on mile 9. Lots of Lucozade but I’ll mainly keep myself light and empty.”

Where can we find information about it

There is a just giving link set up available for anyone to donate. Charlotte will be fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK, continuing Club Insure’s special relationship with the charity.

There are around 12,000 prostate cancer deaths in the UK every year, that’s 33 every day. Charlotte hopes to raise as much as possible for this vital charity which helps change lives for the better.
