The Type S has a more powerful engine than the base model and standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive.
A turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine is standard on the Type S and mates with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
This engine makes 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque.
An air suspension and adaptive dampers are also included with the Type S.
Visually, the Type S is set apart by a tweaked front end and gloss black trim around the wheel wells.
The brakes are upgraded and feature red calipers.
Twenty-one-inch wheels and 275-width Continental tires are standard on all Type S models.
The Type S Advance package comes with extra equipment including massaging front seats, an upgraded ELS audio system, and nicer upholstery.
The MDX Type S starts at $67,745 for the standard model and $73,095 for the Advance.
