Lloyd’s global re/insurer MS Amlin has announced the appointment of Emma Snowdon (pictured above) as head of capital management and investments.

In this new role, Snowdon will oversee the company’s capital modeling, capital strategy, and investment portfolio management, all aimed at supporting MS Amlin’s long-term growth objectives and financial resilience. Snowdon will be based in London and report to chief financial officer Jessie Burrows.

Snowdon brings over 20 years of experience in the insurance sector, with extensive expertise in capital management, financial strategy, and risk management. She joins MS Amlin from Direct Line Group, where she spent more than a decade, most recently as director of insurance and financial risk, overseeing financial risk management and insurance oversight across the group.

Prior to that role, she served as head of insurance risk at the same company.

Her earlier career included a tenure at Zurich, where she acted as the global corporate and discontinued business actuarial business partner, leading reserving teams and supporting regulatory compliance.

Snowdon began her career as a consultant in the non-life actuarial department at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), working on reserving, audits, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as providing actuarial guidance for Schemes of Arrangement and Part VII transfers.

Commenting on the appointment, Burrows said that Snowdon’s expertise would be instrumental in supporting the company’s ambitious growth plans.

“She will play a crucial role in supporting our ambitious growth plans, ensuring we have the financial strength and agility to expand our market presence and seize new opportunities. Her appointment underscores our commitment to building a robust, resilient business, underpinned by a solid capital base and a disciplined, strategic investment approach,” Burrows said.

In addition to Snowdon’s appointment, MS Amlin continues to enhance its employee benefits. In June, the company introduced a new paid carer’s leave policy, offering employees one week of paid leave to care for their dependents.

The initiative is part of MS Amlin’s broader effort to support employees managing multiple responsibilities at work and at home. This policy is a part of the company’s expanding range of life-stage benefits, reflecting a commitment to employee well-being across various stages of life.
