ServiceMaster Restore Partners with Humber College to Launch Groundbreaking Disaster Recovery Manager Program

TORONTO, ON, SEPTEMBER 18, 2024/insPRESS/ – As extreme weather events and natural disasters continue to impact communities across Canada, the need for skilled professionals in the disaster recovery industry has never been greater. To address this growing demand, ServiceMaster Restore is proud to announce its significant role in the development and launch of the Disaster Recovery Manager Program at Humber College, the first of its kind in Canada.

The new Humber College’s Disaster Recovery Manager Program is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge, skills, and certifications required for a successful career in the property restoration industry. The program is aimed at attracting and training new talent while preparing them for leadership roles, such as Project Managers, in the disaster restoration space.

ServiceMaster Restore was an instrumental partner in the creation of the program, bringing decades of experience and industry expertise to help shape the curriculum. Daniel Loosemore, Chief of Sales & Operations, along with Maureen Catania, Director of National Sales, Joshua Jordano, Network Quality & Performance Manager, and the broader ServiceMaster team played a pivotal role in making this program a reality.

“We are deeply committed to supporting the next generation of disaster recovery professionals,” said Loosemore. “Our partnership with Humber College allows us to share our technical knowledge and resources, ensuring students are well-prepared for the challenges they will face in this field.”

A Comprehensive Curriculum Backed by Industry Leaders
The Disaster Recovery Manager Program offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates industry-standard certifications and cutting-edge technology. Learners will have the opportunity to obtain certifications as Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration Technicians (FSRT), Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRT), and receive training on Xactimate—a leading software used in the restoration and insurance industries. In addition, the program partners with technology firms such as Encircle and Verisk, ensuring students are proficient in the tools and systems they will encounter on the job.

ServiceMaster Restore was a key contributor to developing several foundational aspects of the curriculum, including content for courses such as “Introduction to Restoration” and “Operations & Project Management.” The company’s efforts included providing valuable industry data, developing course curriculum, writing case studies, and offering insights on best practices.

Commitment to Education and Sustainability
In addition to its role in curriculum development, ServiceMaster Restore has demonstrated its long-term commitment to student success by establishing two scholarships for program participants:

ServiceMaster Restore of Canada Academic Excellence Award: This $1,000 award will be granted annually to the top student in the program, recognizing their outstanding academic achievements.
ServiceMaster Restore of Canada Scholarship: This scholarship covers 50% of tuition fees, valued at $1,750 per student, per cohort, and will be awarded based on criteria focusing on environmental stewardship. ServiceMaster Restore seeks to encourage students who are passionate about integrating sustainability into their careers in disaster recovery.

Preparing for the Future
Humber College’s Disaster Recovery Manager Program will begin its Fall term on September 23, 2024. Graduates of the program will be equipped to pursue a range of roles within the property restoration industry, including Project Managers, Loss Estimators, and Emergency Technicians.

“We are thrilled to work alongside Humber College and other industry leaders to launch this groundbreaking program,” said Maureen Catania. “It is our hope that the Disaster Recovery Manager Program will serve as a vital pipeline for new talent into the industry, helping to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in disaster recovery.”
