Well, Monterey Car Week has wrapped up, Pebble Beach has gone back to being a regular golf course and now we’re stuck waiting an entire year to find out which pre-WWII car will win the Concours d’Elegance in 2025. It’s truly exciting stuff. The thing is, though, eventually the cars that are new and relatively normal to see on the road eventually become rare and valuable. So if we look far enough into the future, theoretically, a lot of the cars we see today will have the chance to be Concours winners in the future.

So let’s fast forward a hundred years. That should be long enough for something else to get recognized. Maybe. Then again, for all we know, the ridiculously wealthy will keep trotting out pre-war car after pre-war car for all of eternity, and nothing will ever break their hold on that particular award. The cynic in me says that’s more likely, but I’m trying to be optimistic here. What car do you predict will win the 2124 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance?

By then, the days of just popping over to the gas station to fill up will probably be nothing but a distant memory. Same with the cool winters, easy access to drinking water and most of the state of Florida. So I could see gas-powered cars still being a fascination for the ultra-wealthy who can still get their hands on synthetic gasoline. Then again, maybe early EVs will be more interesting since we’re really just starting to figure them out.

Instead of picking something like the Ferrari F40, I’m going to go with the Tesla Cybertruck. They aren’t even well-built enough to survive a basic car wash, so there’s a good chance that in another 10 years or so, they will have mostly disappeared from the roads. And yet, you just know there are plenty of owners out there who got their Cyberbeast delivery and then immediately stuck it in climate-controlled storage. Fast forward to 2124, and I bet one of the few surviving Cybertrucks is going to win the whole thing. And when it does, I hope Future Jalopnik annoys all those vintage EV enthusiasts by pointing out what a piece of shit Musk was.
