Global re/insurance broker Consilium has announced the appointment of Basil Montieth (pictured above) as senior partner for its Cayman office.

This marks the third senior appointment by Consilium in the Cayman Islands this year, signaling the firm’s expansion in the region.

Montieth joins Consilium from Bogle Insurance Brokers, where he served as head of commercial lines for 15 years. Montieth brings extensive experience in the property and casualty insurance markets of Jamaica, Cayman, and Canada, with specialized expertise in property and liability lines.

He joins a team that includes Rori-Leigh Mighty, appointed as partner in June, and Yaremis Hydes, managing partner for Consilium Cayman, who also joined the firm from Aon in June.

Consilium obtained its license in Cayman in 2023 and has since established a local team. The team collaborates closely with colleagues in London to offer a unified service to clients in Cayman. The firm provides access to both local and international insurance markets, including London and Europe, to secure additional capacity.

Consilium’s focus in the region includes financial and professional lines, construction, residential and commercial property sectors, as well as group medical and ancillary benefits.

“Consilium brings a fresh entrepreneurial approach and an injection of creativity which has been lacking here recently from the broking community,” Montieth said. ”I know that clients will really benefit from its creative approach to structuring insurance programmes for clients’ risk exposures – not settling for the status quo or simply offering off the shelf solutions.

“I was impressed too by the Consilium leadership team; it has made great strides in growth and successfully embedded an attractive and strong entrepreneurial culture. I’m really excited to begin this next chapter and to help Consilium grow its presence in Cayman.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Basil to Consilium,” said Consilium joint CEO James Baird. “We now have a winning team in place in Cayman – individuals with decades of experience in P&C, strong technical capability and a sterling reputation for integrity and reliability. Our growing team is bringing real service, choice and creative insurance solutions back to clients in the Cayman market.”

Consilium is a global broker with licenses across major financial centers and offshore jurisdictions, including Guernsey, Jersey, and Cayman. The company has increased its headcount by 85% since June 2022 and plans further recruitment this year.

Consilium currently manages $600 million in gross written premium (GWP) and aims to reach $1.4 billion GWP by 2026.
