Aviva Canada has chosen Thomas Neil Morrison (pictured) to succeed Anne Marie O’Donovan as board chair next year.

Ahead of the succession, the chair designate joined Aviva Canada’s board on July 25 as an independent non-executive director (NED). Morrison has also held the independent NED position at Aviva Canada’s UK-headquartered parent Aviva Plc since June 17.

The next chair of Aviva Canada has more than 38 years of experience in the Canadian insurance sector, including time spent at Hub International. He most recently served as managing partner and chair of insurance broker Platform Insurance Management. Currently, Morrison is the chair of cybersecurity, prevention, and insurance provider BOXX Insurance.

Meanwhile, in addition to Morrison, Carol Jardine also joined the Aviva Canada board this week. A fellow independent NED, she was president of Wawanesa’s Canadian property & casualty operations and executive vice president of Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company.

At present, Jardine is a member of the Tarion board. At Aviva Canada, she will join the risk, audit, and governance, conduct & compliance committees, taking over from Bill Bloom, who stepped down on Thursday.

“I also want to extend my appreciation to Bill for his contributions to the board in the past year. Bill’s expertise and insights on delivering customer-focused solutions helped support our efficiency and growth goals.”

Aviva Canada chief executive Tracy Garrad, meanwhile, had this to say: “We are excited to have Neil and Carol join our board. Their decision to take on the board appointment is a testament to their belief in Aviva’s purpose and commitment to build a better tomorrow for our customers and communities, working closely with brokers and partners.

“I look forward to Anne Marie’s continued leadership as she transitions the chair role over to Neil in 2025.”
