Solis Re has named Bermuda market veteran Conan Ward as interim CEO. Headquartered in Miami, Solis Re is a reinsurance company for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The company is an underwriting platform that focuses on Latin America and the Caribbean. Some of its services include:

Ward brings more than 20 years’ worth of insurance and reinsurance experience to the company. He spent 11 years in Bermuda, most notably as chief executive officer at Validus Reinsurance Ltd. He held the position of chief underwriting officer of Validus Re from its founding until 2009, during which time he built and managed a US$1 billion property and specialty reinsurance business.

From its formation in 2001 until 2005, Ward was the executive vice president of Axis Specialty Ltd., where he built and ran portions of its worldwide treaty portfolio and served on its management board. Ward was also the CEO of Hamilton USA from 2013 to 2015 before joining Willis Re as chairman in 2017 until 2019.

Ward also launched and led US-based subsidiary MGA units named RubiQon Risk & Insurance Services and RubiQon Re in 2020.

He will succeed former CEO and company founder Andy Downey, who died earlier this month at the age of 58.  Downey served as the president and CEO of the company for the past eight years. His career focused on Latin America, working within the region since 1996.
