Reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter has announced the launch of a new Capital & Advisory group and hired Alexander Schnieders from Teneo Holdings to lead the new initiative.

Guy Carpenter’s Capital & Advisory team will sit in the same Global Capital Solutions unit where investment banking, catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) team GC Securities is located within the company.

Capital & Advisory will work closely with GC Securities as the reinsurance broker looks to help market participants access, utilise and raise capital in its most efficient forms.

Alexander Schnieders has been hired as the global head of Capital & Advisory and will report to Laurent Rousseau, CEO of Europe, IMEA and Global Capital Solutions.

Schnieders has joined Guy Carpenter from Teneo Holdings, where he was the Head of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and Co-Head of M&A.

At Teneo, he managed the group’s US insurance practice including strategy, business planning, deal sourcing and executing capital raising and M&A transactions. Before that, Schnieders worked for Goldman Sachs and Perella Weinberg Partners in similar roles.

The Capital & Advisory group is expected to expand Guy Carpenter’s offerings to c-suite clients globally and bring more capital to reinsurance risks.

The team there will be tasked with raising capital for clients, advising on capital and M&A transactions, creating new market capacity, and supporting new reinsurance company formation.

“The addition of a Capital & Advisory team to our already strong Global Capital Solutions unit, which includes cat bonds and other insurance-linked securities through GC Securities and legacy products through Global Risk Solutions, creates an offering that is unmatched in the industry. With Alexander’s extensive background and strong relationships, the team is well positioned to serve our clients,” explained Rousseau.
