Western Financial Group is set to celebrate the opening of its new Vernon branch with the broker’s annual 5km charity walk. The weeklong, national event will include the walk at Western Financial Group Vernon from 11:00am to 11:30am on May 23, to be followed by the branch’s grand opening at noon. Funds raised will benefit the NONA Child Development Centre.

“We want to be where our customers are and offer our services in a way that’s accessible to everyone, so our customers can get in touch with us in person, over the phone, or online,” Western Financial Group president and chief executive Kenny Nicholls said.

“Healthy teams are also important to us, so integrating a walk while giving back to our local communities seemed to be an obvious way to celebrate Vernon’s grand opening. Buying insurance should be easy, and our customers should feel secure that we have their backs in the event that something should go wrong.”

Employees nationwide are taking part in the 5km walk, supporting causes important to them. For each participating employee, Western will donate $50. Since 2001, the broker’s charity, the Western Financial Group Community Foundation, has contributed $9 million to local communities across Canada.

For the Vernon walk, in particular, Nicholls noted: “Everyone who lives in the North Okanagan area knows NONA and the great services they provide the community’s children, so it made perfect sense for us to choose this worthy organization for our 2024 walk in Vernon.”

The branch opening, meanwhile, will also feature a BBQ fundraiser. Nicholls will be joined at the event by chief business development officer Grant Ostir, sales vice president Darren Sinclair, NONA executive director Helen Armstrong, and City of Vernon Councillor Kelly Fehr.
