Sport Law and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), which launched the Hope on the Horizon Tour in April 2023, are hosting the final leg on June 4 with the support of Markel Canada.

The event, taking place at the RA Centre in Ottawa, will not only recap the tour’s impact but also feature Markel Canada’s announcement of a new initiative to boost insurance capacity for sport organizations.

Spanning the below locations/hosts and dates, the tour’s workshops provide a platform for participants to engage in discussions on topics such as governance, risk management, sport safety, values-based leadership, and True Sport activation.

Reflecting on the initiative, Brenda McClung (pictured), assistant vice president of Markel Play, stated: “We were delighted to contribute to hosting two events in Ontario and are inspired by the thoughtfulness and commitment of the participants to improve legal and leadership practices.

Karri Dawson, executive director of values-based sport at CCES, said: “As the network leader for values-based sport, the CCES was honoured to meet with sport leaders across the country to discuss how the activation of True Sport principles can contribute to fostering positive sport cultures.

“We look forward to collaborating with the Canadian sport community to ensure that sport delivers on its promise.”

Sport Law partner Steve Indig added: “We’ve had the good fortune of learning from sport leaders from across the country. We were so inspired by their commitment to modernize their practices and look forward to doing our part to keep elevating sport.”

All local sport leaders are welcome to join the final event at the RA Centre, 2451 Riverside Drive, Ottawa – Courtside B. Interested participants are requested to RSVP to [email protected] by May 31.
