Wawanesa Insurance gathered commercial insurance brokers earlier this week for “The Commercial Market: The Changing Opportunity” panel discussion in Toronto.

Industry experts who spoke at the event included: Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario’s chief operating officer Brett Boadway; Anna McCrindell (pictured), senior vice president and chief operations officer – East at Wawanesa; Behzad Salehoun, Canada insurance lead at Capco; and Deloitte partner and national insurance sector leader James Colaco.

Moderated by Marissa Teeter, the discussion brought several key insights to light, including the crucial role played by brokers and the need for ongoing delivery of meaningful risk management advice.

Other areas touched on by the panel include the rates softening and increased capacity in certain categories of business, as well as innovative approaches to succession planning and training.

“This event underscores Wawanesa’s commitment to helping brokers adapt and excel in a rapidly changing commercial market,” McCrindell said. “The commercial market has never been more complex, yet there has never been so much opportunity for brokers and insurers to add value to every business we insure.”

Meanwhile Susan Williams-Bonet, vice president for Ontario and host of the event, pointed to Wawanesa’s focus on being a thoughtful and dependable partner for commercial brokers.

She said: “Wawanesa aims to become a leading commercial insurer in Canada. We are Canadian-owned, national in scope, financially strong, and built for stability. Our decisions are made in Canada, often in brokers’ own markets.

“We have local, dedicated commercial underwriters, and our members and brokers can count on us to help. This is part of the difference we offer in the market, especially in the highly competitive Ontario market.”

On LinkedIn, Wawanesa said: “We had an informative discussion about the evolution of commercial insurance, and enjoyed connecting with broker partners to reflect on the insights delivered by our panel. We look forward to continuing the conversation about key topics that affect insurers, brokers, and Canadian businesses alike.”
