Suncorp Group recently hosted its annual Graduate Conference in Brisbane, inviting 54 graduates for a three-day program designed to facilitate networking, skill development, and professional growth.

The Suncorp Graduate Program, spanning two years, aims to nurture technical skills, broaden professional networks, and build working experience. Applications open annually in August, drawing more than 5,000 submissions from students across Australia and New Zealand. The program offers 60 graduate and 40 internship positions annually.

Suncorp graduate advisor Kelly Pfeffer said the conference provides networking opportunities with peers and senior leadership.

“Our graduate program is a small but impactful segment of our Suncorp workforce.  Every year, we bring in a new group of talented people who have recently completed tertiary studies in either Australia or New Zealand,” she said.

How has the program evolved?

Pfeffer said the program has evolved significantly over the years to adapt to the competitive job market.

“Students today have so many more options than a decade ago. Suncorp Group is competing against most medium to large companies in both the private and public sector across Australia and New Zealand. It means we need to be very clear on what our point of difference is and why a student should choose Suncorp over others,” she said.

The program offers both specialist and generalist tracks. Specialist roles are aimed at graduates who have a clear career direction, while generalist roles include rotations across different business functions. Graduates gain hands-on experience through key projects and initiatives that impact customers and the community.

Two graduate-run committees also offer additional support through initiatives such as buddy programs, social events, fundraising, and professional development activities. The goal is for graduates to secure promotions in their area of interest, with 30% of the cohort achieving this milestone before the program ends.

Expressions of interest for the 2025 Suncorp Graduate Program are now open. The intern program begins on Nov. 18, 2024, and runs for 12 weeks, while the graduate program starts on Jan. 28, 2025.
