Ireland-based insurtech Blink Parametric has entered into a renewed three-year agreement with Blue Cross.
Blue Cross was the first to introduce Blink Parametric’s flight disruption real-time assistance solution to the Canadian market in October 2018. It has since expanded coverage across eight provinces: Ontario, Québec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.
“Blue Cross backed us right out of the gate in 2018 and was the first brand in Canada to use our innovative platform to assist insured travellers experiencing flight delays or cancellations,” said Blink Parametric CEO Sid Mouncey. “Their decision was prescient back then, ahead of the unprecedented global travel turmoil to follow.”
With the renewed agreement between the two firms, Blue Cross can continue offering the flight disruption solution to its customers.
“This agreement speaks volumes for the strength of our long-term collaboration and growth over the past five years,” said Mouncey. “I’m proud of the great teamwork and look forward to the next chapter of serving the Canadian market.”
Blink Parametric’s flight disruption solution works by requiring customers to register their flight details before travel. It then monitors the flight in real-time, allowing travellers to be notified in case of a delay or cancellation.
The solution also presents alternatives that include cash pay-outs, lounge access, or other amenities, aiming to ease the stress and repercussions of the delay.
“Our teams ensure that our policyholders enjoy travelling with confidence and peace of mind, whether they are exploring Canada or the world,” said Tim Bishop, managing director at Blue Cross of Canada. “Millions of Canadians trust that our travel coverage delivers the assistance they need, and we are excited to continue our successful partnership.”
According to Blue Cross’ 2023 travel survey, 89% of Canadians have experienced travel-related stress, with cancelled or changed flights ranking among travellers’ top stressors.
