2023 marks 25 years since the revolutionary Yamaha R1 was launched – the bike that rewrote the litre-class sportsbike rulebook.

And the tuning fork firm is marking the occasion by releasing a no-holds-barred GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) PRO 25th anniversary R1 track bike, with the best factory parts, hand-built by the factory’s race technicians.

And it’s a bike that Yamaha claims is a near-match for its World Superbike or World Endurance racing machines.

The trick parts list includes a carbon fibre rear subframe, complete with race fuel tank that lowers the centre of gravity, and full carbon fibre bodywork and fairings. There’s a Magneti Marelli race ECU pre-fitted, along with a GYTR PRO Electronic System module that adds engine control and data acquisition used in WSBK and World Endurance racing.

The GPES features the firm’s most up-to-date electronic software rider aids, such as anti-wheelie, launch control, engine braking management, adjustable fuelling, and traction control, and is supplied with what Yamaha reckons is a ready-to-go base setting that provides an excellent starting point for fine tuning on track.

There’s an Akrapovic full race pipe and while there’s no exact specs on the engine, expect a hand-built race powerplant putting out a lot more bhp than the stock 200bhp.

On the chassis front, the GYTR R1 comes with Öhlins FGR gas front forks and a TTX rear shock with pneumatic preload adjuster, while the brakes are by Brembo.

Just 25 of the GYTR Pro Yamaha R1s will be built, and it’s fair to say that if you have to ask the price then you probably can’t afford one…

Each bike will be built at the customer’s chosen factory GYTR Pro race shops, and they’ll then get a full day of testing on track with a team of dedicated Yamaha technicians to get the perfect setup.

Andrea Dosoli, road racing manager at Yamaha Motor Europe said, “We have developed the range of GYTR PRO performance parts alongside our World Superbike and Endurance World Championship race programs, to enable us to offer our customers the opportunity to experience a level of performance that is truly unique.

To mark the 25th Anniversary of the R1 we have brought together the bike, the full range of GYTR PRO performance parts and the knowledge and experience of our GYTR Pro Shops to provide a turn-key solution for those Yamaha customers who demand the very best.

With the R1 GYTR PRO 25th Anniversary edition  our customers have the opportunity to enjoy a unique bike; a bike that is as close to the specification of our world championship race machines as it is possible to experience without having a Yamaha contract to race in WSBK or EWC.”
