2023 Recall: Maxi-Cosi Coral XP Rear Facing Only Infant Seat

Car Seats For The Littles

(Last Updated On: March 22, 2023)

The Issue

Maxi-Cosi Coral XP rear facing only car seat with the base, showing the inner and outer carrier.

Dorel Juvenile Group (Maxi-Cosi) issued a recall of Maxi-Cosi Coral XP infant seats for the inner carrier failing to meet FMVSS213 standards for labeling and design.

NHTSA found several noncompliances related to the design and labeling of the Coral XP’s inner carrier including Installation, Labeling, Printed Instructions, and Dynamic Procedure. Coral XP’s child restraint system (the inner carrier) cannot be installed into a vehicle without the use of a supplemental device (the outer carrier). As such, the seat fails to comply with FMVSS213.

This is not related to the other 2023 recall on the seat for the base’s lower anchors.

Affected models:

Maxi-Cosi Coral XP Rear Facing Only Infant SeatModel Number: IC313Manufacture Dates: May 01, 2020 – February 28, 2023

Safety Risk:

Installing the Maxi-Cosi Coral XP into a vehicle with only its inner carrier will not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

You can continue to use the Coral XP as long as the inner carrier is used with the outer shell and installed following the instructions in the manual.

Issue:

Dorel Juvenile Group (Dorel) is recalling certain Maxi-Cosi Coral XP Rear-facing Infant Seats with model number IC313. The child seat inner carrier is not sufficient to restrain a child without the use of the outer carrier. As such, these child seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213, “Child Restraint Systems.”

Remedy

Owners are advised only to use the inner carrier of the Maxi-Cosi Coral XP when it is attached to the outer carrier and installed with or without the base using the vehicle belt restraint system, consistent with the existing instruction booklet and labels.

Dorel will offer a refund or free replacement of the seat.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 7, 2023. Owners may contact Dorel’s customer service at 1-877-657-9546 or [email protected].
